[Sean Dorrance Kelly](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Dorrance_Kelly) is the Dean of Arts and Humanities at [Harvard University](https://www.harvard.edu/about-harvard/), where he also serves as [Teresa G. and Ferdinand F. Martignetti Professor of Philosophy](https://philosophy.fas.harvard.edu/people/sean-kelly). He holds a [Harvard College Professor](https://philosophy.fas.harvard.edu/news/sean-kelly-named-harvard-college-professor) and since 2017 has served, with his wife Cheryl Chen, as the [Faculty Dean](https://dunster.harvard.edu/people/faculty-deans-0) of [Dunster House](https://dunster.harvard.edu/). Dean Kelly served as Chair of the [Harvard Philosophy Department](https://philosophy.fas.harvard.edu/) from 2009-2015 and as co-Chair of the Standing Committee on [Mind, Brain, and Behavior](https://mbb.harvard.edu/) from 2009-2012. He is an Affiliate of the [Department of Germanic Languages and Literature](https://german.fas.harvard.edu/people/sean-kelly) and an Associate of the [Center for European Studies](https://ces.fas.harvard.edu/studying-intellectual-history-at-harvard/affiliated-faculty-in-other-departments-at-harvard-university). In 2015-16, then-Prof. Kelly chaired the Faculty Committee that [reviewed](https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2015/05/harvard-college-general-education-criticized) and [re-wrote](https://generaleducation.fas.harvard.edu/files/gened/files/gerc_final_report.pdf) the General Education program at the College, a [topic](https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2007/2/13/what-is-general-education-for-it/) of [longstanding](https://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~sdkelly/General%20Education.pdf) [interest](https://allthingsshiningbook.wordpress.com/2019/09/10/the-comfort-college/). Before arriving at Harvard in 2006, Kelly taught at Stanford (AY 1998-99) and Princeton (1999-2006), and he was a Visiting Professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris (Fall 2004). He has published [articles](https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=8o64-doAAAAJ&hl=en) in numerous journals and anthologies and has received fellowships or awards from the [Guggenheim Foundation](https://www.gf.org/fellows/all-fellows/sean-dorrance-kelly/), the [NEH](http://consc.net/event/neh/cast.html), the NSF and the James S. McDonnell Foundation, among others. His last book, [*All Things Shining: Reading the Western Canon to Find Meaning in Our Secular Age*](https://www.amazon.com/All-Things-Shining-Reading-Classics/dp/141659616X) (2011), jointly written with Hubert Dreyfus, was a New York Times bestseller.
